Dorothy Bloom began her lifetime of reading and writing in her old home town of Minneapolis, MN, and honed her skills at the University of Minnesota with her creative writing teacher Anna Phelan. For Dorothy, writing was the tool for systematically uncovering the many mysteries dogging her steps and those of her fellow human beings. Dorothy has lived in Oneonta since 1960; she now lives in Oneonta with her daughter's family and studies her grandchildren for continued evidence of the beauty and difficulty and humor of human relationships. & FEATURED WRITER RON DELUCA, HANCOCK NY.Ron Deluca retired after forty-four years in the advertising business. His experience includes art director, writer, creative director, operating officer, president. After retirement he wrote a book on his experiences in the business which became so focused on Lee Iacocca it was old news and never published. • OCT. 4-31, 2009 (SEE HOURS)

WORD & IMAGE GALLERY EXHIBIT BOOK DYNAMICS BY ED HUTCHINS, MOUNT VERNON, NY. Ed Hutchins has taught, lectured, curated shows, directed book arts programs and created many editioned books while traveling across the U.S.A., Canada, and Mexico. Since 1989 he has been the proprietor of Editions, a workshop for producing artist book multiples. He was the director of the Book Arts Jamboree in 1998 and 1999, founded Book Central in 1998, and ran it until it was sold in 2000, and, along with Carolyn Chadwick, was co-organizer of the New York BookFest in 2004 and 2005. He organized and curated "Stand and Deliver: Engineering Sculpture Into a Book Format," that traveled to five venues in USA during 2004-05. Recently, he returned from a four-week teaching trip Down Under that included programs in Brisbane, Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, and Auckland (NZ). He is currently fascinated with unfolding, pop-up, collapsing, and exploding story boxes, creating artist’s books that spring to life in delightful and unexpected ways. Combining eclectic materials and ingenious formats with unusual printing techniques and advanced paper engineering, his hand-made books blow apart the traditions of the bindery, while infusing traditional forms with new meaning. Hutchins' inventions and variations expand the boundaries of bookmaking in unimagined, and not soon forgotten, directions. MON.- TUES., 10 AM - 4 PM., WED. 9 AM - NOON. SAT., BY APPT. FREE.
