2010 Individual Share the Words Winners: Katy, Dove, Cara, Stephanie, Michael, Patty, Chris, and Amanda
TREADWELL, NY - For the 14th year, area high-school poets competed by reading their original poetry in the Word Thursdays Share the Words High-School Poetry Competition; the competition was held in the library at Bright Hill Literary Center in Treadwell. The following prizes were awarded:  the Graham Duncan and Jean Wyckoff Formal Poetry Award: first place, Dove, a senior at Jefferson High School; second place, Katy, also a senior at Jefferson High School; the Robert Winner Nature Poetry Award:  first place, Patty, a sophomore at Norwich City chools; second place, Stephanie, also a sophomore at Norwich City Schools; the Bright Hill Press Current Events or Relationship Poetry Award: first place, Amanda, a junior at Jefferson High School; second place, Chris, a junior at Norwich City Schools; and the Nicholas Alicino Performance Poetry Award:  first place, Cara, a senior at Jefferson High School; second place, Michael, a junior at Norwich City Schools. The winning team was Norwich City Schools, led by teacher and coach Richard Bernstein, who was named Coach of the Year.  The students were judged by Oneonta poet Pamela Strother, Oneonta; educator Karen Detert, West Delhi; and Bright Hill intern Clara Barnhart, Unadilla, a rising senior in English at Champlain College, VT. Prizes included US Savings Bonds, contributed by the Delaware National Bank of Delhi, sets of Bright Hill books, and readings by the winners and their coaches at a special Word Thursdays event on June 3 and at the third annual Art and Soul Festival in Delhi on July 31.
